What your card looks like on Discover when your profile is incomplete
When another member sees your card on Discover, they decide in seconds whether to swipe right. An incomplete profile gives them very little to work with.
What the card shows
Your card on Discover displays the following information:
- Full Name
- Job Title
- Company
- Goals
- Industry (if filled in)
- Sectors (if filled in)
- Skills (if filled in)
- Tools (if filled in)
The first four come from the Basics. The last four come from Stand Out. If a field is empty, it simply doesn't appear on the card. The card looks sparse.
What a sparse card means for your matches
Members browse quickly. If your card shows only a name and nothing else, there's no signal to act on. No job title means they can't tell what you do. No goals means they can't tell why you're here. No industry or skills means you won't surface in filtered searches at all.
A complete card gives someone a concrete reason to swipe right. An incomplete one gives them a reason to keep scrolling.
Why your swipes don't count yet
Until all 8 Basics fields are complete, your swipes aren't recorded. You can browse Discover and see other members, but no match can be created. You'll see a banner at the top of Discover saying "Complete the basics to unlock Discover and start matching."
Completing the Basics removes the banner and activates your swipes.
How to check your progress
Go to Settings > Profile. The completion bar at the top shows two zones:
- Left zone: your Basics progress (X/8)
- Right zone: your Stand Out progress (X/6)
When the Basics zone reaches 8/8, you'll see a green "Ready to match" label. That's when your card becomes fully active.
The 8 Basics fields
| Field | What it adds to your card |
|---|---|
| Full Name | Your name at the top of the card |
| Job Title | What you do |
| Company | Where you work |
| Country | Location context |
| Professional Bio | Background context (shown on your full profile, not the card) |
| Goals | Why you're on Netch, visible on the card |
| Calendar Link | Used in the auto-message sent when you match |
| Verifies your identity, visible on your full profile |
All 8 are required. Saving partial progress is fine, but Discover only unlocks when all 8 are complete.
The Stand Out fields that improve your card
These are optional, but each one adds visible information to your card and makes you findable through filters:
- Industry surfaces your card when someone filters by industry
- Sectors surfaces your card in sector-based searches (B2B, SaaS, Marketplace, etc.)
- Skills surfaces your card when someone filters by a specific skill
- Tools surfaces your card when someone filters by a specific tool
Filling in all four of these turns a minimal card into a rich one. For more on all 14 fields, see "Mandatory vs. optional profile fields."
