Connecting with attendees before the event
The best time to reach out is before the event. People still have open calendars, and a shared event gives every message a natural reason to exist.
Step 1: Filter for your event in Discover
Open Discover, tap Filters, and select your event from the Event field. This narrows the feed to profiles of people going to the same event.
You can layer other filters on top (location, role, industry, goals) to find the most relevant people to reach out to.
Step 2: Swipe right on people you want to meet
Browse the filtered results and swipe right on anyone you would genuinely like to connect with.
When both of you swipe right, you match. Netch sends an automatic intro message to both of you in Chat, which includes both calendar links.
Step 3: Use Chat to move quickly
Once you match, keep the first message short and specific.
A good opening references the event and one reason you wanted to connect:
- "Saw we are both going to the event next week. Your work on onboarding sounds relevant to what I am building, want to connect before or after?"
- "Looks like we will both be at the conference on Thursday. I noticed you are working on partner-led growth. Would be glad to say hi in person."
Do not write a long intro. People reply faster when the message is easy to scan.
Step 4: Book a call or plan a meetup
If the conversation is warm, move to a call or suggest an in-person meetup at the event.
Use the calendar links in the auto-intro message to book time directly. That removes back-and-forth and keeps the next step clear.
Book a call when:
- You want more than a quick hallway conversation
- The topic needs more time than the event allows
- You want to follow up in more depth after the event
Suggest an in-person meetup when:
- You are in the same city
- The event is soon
- A short conversation is enough to cover the topic
Pace yourself
Send one message, then wait.
If there is no reply, give it space. A second note should add something useful: a clearer reason to meet, or a new time window. Sending several quick follow-ups usually makes the conversation harder to continue.
A simple pace that works:
- Match → send one short message
- Wait for a reply
- Follow up once if needed with something specific
- Move on if the timing is not right
